Writers program for Sacred Heart

Writers program for Sacred Heart

Sacred Heart Catholic School in Geeveston was selected as a school site for the Young Writers Program, with the initiative kicking off on Thursday, October 28.

The program, funded by the Primary English Teaching Association Australia (PETA), aims to motivate and inspire students to be passionate about writing by giving them the opportunity to work with a real published author.

Dr Sarah Jane Moore, Associate lecturer at University of New South Wales, artist and author of the children’s book River Business, was contracted to work at Sacred Heart with students and assisted in students developing their own living stories at school.

Sacred Heart is one out of only six schools in Australia to become home to the program.

Dr Moore made use of the school’s outdoor learning space for teaching and encouraged students to write on anything at all.

“The students have books to make their own and fill with their own ideas and stories,” Dr Moore explained.
