Christmas is back in the Valley

Christmas is back in the Valley

The Huon District Lions Christmas Parade travelled through Ranelagh and Huonville on Saturday, November 27, with sunny weather leading to a great turnout on the day.

While it was a smaller crowd for this year’s event due to COVID regulations, the usual ice cream, lollies and appearance from Santa still went ahead, with plenty of Christmas cheer spread by Santa and his helpers and a welcome return for the Christmas parade after its postponement last year, also due to COVID.

Ann Brittain, a member of the Huon District Lions Club and one of the organisers of the parade, said that the Lions Club couldn’t have been happier with how the parade went ahead.

“There was a lot of people there on the day who all had an amazing time, so the Lions Club is ecstatic that all the planning and chaos was worthwhile,” Ms Brittain exclaimed.

Part of the chaos this year included extending the Christmas parade in length to a six kilometre route, with the normal Christmas festivities at the Christmas parade prevented by COVID regulations.

“It was challenging, to say the least, to extend the route, but so many people enjoyed it.

“We hope to do the same route next year and hopefully, with more groups and a wider variety, including churches, businesses, cultural groups, even sporting groups, getting involved,” Ms Brittain expressed.
