Hoons harming the Huon

Hoons harming the Huon

“It took me two hours to remove the remnants of tyres from two sections of road,” Ken Stronach, owner of Tahune Adventures described.

Hooning along Arve Road, an area owned by Sustainable Timbers Tasmania, has reached an all time high, according to Mr Stronach.

Arve Road, which supplies access to Tahune Adventures and the Airwalk as well as Hartz Mountains National Park, is a tourism hotspot, something Mr Stronach says will be detrimentally affected by continued hooning and damage to local roads.

“I know that Arve Road isn’t the only spot affected by hooning, but it is a really important road for Geeveston and the Huon Valley, as a way to some of the area’s biggest tourism spots.

“It is one of the busiest tourist routes in the south of the state and visitors come to the region to witness the natural beauty of Tasmania yet, their entree to these otherwise lovely destinations is a disgusting and uncontrolled mess.”

Mr Stronach states that this tourism area represents significant employment, investment and incomes generally for Huon Valley families and has strong words for the hoons who threaten this.
