Yukon's final send-off

Yukon's final send-off

A flotilla of boats took over the Huon River on Wednesday, June 22, as part of the grand departure of Franklin-based boat Yukon and its crew.
Headed by captain David Nash and long-term crew of Ea Lassen and sons Kristopher and Aron, as well as a group of travellers joining the boat for legs of its journey, a small fleet of local boats from the Franklin, Castle Forbes Bay and Port Huon areas accompanied the Yukon as it made its way down the Huon River and out to the Tasman Sea.

Horns from boats and cars as well as cheers from viewers on land marked Yukon’s journey out of the Huon Valley, with the Huon News lucky enough to be onboard the Huon River Cruises’ La Drone boat to be apart of the final farewell.
Huon River Cruises Skipper and Owner Taylor Wilkin ensured that La Drone made the special journey on Wednesday to honour the Yukon.
“The Yukon has been a big part of the Franklin community over the past eight years and a great inspiration for us to start our business,” Mr Wilkins stated.
“We only hope that we can bring as much to the community as they did.
“Because of this, we thought it’s only fitting for us as a new river cruise business to be part of her send-off back to Denmark and invite the members of the community to join us in style for the occasion.”
