The 2022 Young Archies Awards, held on Saturday, August 27, had a large showing of budding Huon Valley artists at its exhibition at the UTAS School of Creative Arts and Media.

Based on the famous Archibald Prize, the Young Archies Awards are an annual Tasmanian portrait competition open to all students of Department of Education schools and colleges, ranging from Kindergarten to Year 12.

Held annually since 2006, the Young Archies motivate and inspire young Tasmanian learners, and provide an opportunity for artistic expression and showcase the wealth of young talent across Tasmania.

Submissions must portray an inspiring or distinguished person known to the young artist, providing a meaningful tribute to the important people and role models in the local communities, as identified by Tasmanian children and young people.
