There is no denying the natural beauty of the sites at Huon Aquaculture dotted around regional Tasmania; the lucky staff are surrounded by the ocean, the forests, the waterways and the wildlife in many of their workplaces.

The Huon Aquaculture site at Whale Point is no exception, where there is Hospital Bay and the Huon River estuary to the east, one of the largest stands of the endangered Black gum (Eucalyptus ovata) remaining in southern Tasmania on site, and the Kermandie River to the north.

However, the site’s industrial history in the 19th and 20th centuries has seen contamination of the soil and the incursion of invasive weeds, which the Huon Aquaculture Environment and Sustainability team have been working on stabilising and improving since they began building their state-of-the-art salmon nursery there in 2017.
