Huon Writes, an exciting new anthology showcasing the diverse voices of Huon Valley writers, is about to hit the local scene.
The joint project by Ashwood Publishing, run by Susan Young in Cradoc, and Cygnet-based freelance book designer Meng Koach, promises to celebrate the unique stories emerging from the region.
Over coffee at the Red Velvet Lounge, the two creators found themselves discussing the sheer number of talented locals coming in and out of the café.
"There's such creativity in the area, and we wanted to celebrate that and support the local writing community," said Meng.
"We want (Huon Writes) to be a platform where emerging writers can be published alongside established authors."
With contributions from well-known names like Bob Brown, Kate Kruimink, Matthew Evans, and Huon News columnist David L Hume, the first issue is already generating excitement.
Huon Writes will be a compact collection of fiction and non-fiction from ten local writers, featuring both established names and fresh voices from the community. "We hope to make it a regular thing," Susan added.
The anthology, launching in November, will appeal to locals and visitors alike, offering a snapshot of what's on the minds of Huon Valley writers.
The project is seeking support through a Kickstarter campaign to cover printing costs and payments to the contributing authors.
"We're hugely grateful for the support we've had from some very busy people for this first issue," said Meng.
Interested readers can visit the Kickstarter page at Huon Writes to help make the project a reality and secure the first copies of the anthology.
