One of the biggest annual events in Geeveston is just weeks away with organisers on target to deliver another free spectacular.
The event is the Geeveston Woodchopping Carnival which is part of the statewide circuit that draws competitors from far and wide with the lure of attractive cash prizes.
Heading up the organising committee again this year is veteran axeman and two-time world single-sawing champion, 84-year-old, Ian (Bruiser) Scott.
He won his first 18-inch Single Handed Sawing Championship at Ulverstone in 1970 and won the title again in 1974.
Those world titles sit with his 70 state titles in Single and Double Handed Sawing, and two Australian Single-Handed titles and two Australian Double Handed titles.
He was a member of the Australian Veterans Team, competing in Australia and New Zealand with success in his later years at the Sydney Royal Easter Show.
His contribution to the sport was recognised by the Southern Tasmanian Axemen's Association with Life Membership recognition for his contributions to the sport of woodchopping.
Now he is recognised as an integral part of the organisation and administration of the Geeveston event.
This year, Huon Valley Financial Services will be sponsoring two events.
The Geeveston Fire Brigade will again set up its delicious barbeque with scotch fillet steak burgers their speciality along with regular burgers and plenty of hot chips.
Chopping starts at 10.30am at the Geeveston Ex-Servicemen's and Women's Club.
There are 16 events on the card and Santa Claus is booked to make an appearance during the day.
Entry is free.
