A writing competition at Huonville High School is igniting creativity amongst classes, with the first winner of the Writer of the Month competition announced.

Year 7 student Zara Strong won with her entry The Box, which was written as part of her year 7 narrative writing unit in English.

Zara said that her entry came from work over four class periods, the idea stemming from a prompt provided in her English class.

“We were given a prompt in class for a story with an idea of ‘the box’ and from that, I just thought up the idea for my story,” Zara explained.

Zara also expressed how she has always wanted to have a career in writing and has always enjoyed writing, even writing some of her own stories at home in her free time
