Voices of the housing struggle

In time for Homelessness Week, the Huon Valley Council (HVC), in partnership with three other councils, has released five stories from individuals around southern Tasmania in the ‘I Am Somebody’ project from Monday, August 1 to Friday, August 5, to highlight the impact of housing stress and homelessness amongst the local community. Two of those stories included a focus on people in the Huon Valley, Cherie and Hollie and Tom, all sharing their personal experiences with housing crises in order to raise awareness about this issue. The ‘I Am Somebody’ documentary project, now in its third year, aims to give a face and voice to those who have or are currently experiencing homelessness, with those suffering often described as “invisible”.This year’s interviews have expanded to include the council areas of Glenorchy, Clarence and Huon Valley, who all work alongside the Housing with Dignity Reference Group and other community organisations to collect, edit and share the documentary’s stories.
