Youthworks gives back to community

Huonville High School students who are a part of the Youthworks PCYC program recently donated benches constructed by them to Huon Regional Care in Franklin, with residents Lyn and Graham happy to place the benches within the building’s gardens. (PS)

The restarted Youthworks program, run through the Hobart PCYC in conjunction with the Huon Valley PCYC, has seen a boost for disengaged youth in the Huon.
The program, back after two years, recently resulted in the presentation of wooden benches, constructed by Huonville High School (HHS) students in the Bunnings Community Construction Course, to Huon Regional Care in Franklin.
This donation was chosen by the Term Two crew of HHS students, who were all eager on the day to present the bench formally to two Huon Regional Care residents, Lyn and Graham, and the staff.
“Everyone was very eager for the day, with all of the students showing up early at the PCYC to head over,” Sacha Barry, youth worker for the PCYC, expressed.
“They’re a lovely group of kids and were so chuffed to be able to present something they were working hard on to people who were really appreciative of their work.”

Ms Barry, who works alongside youth in the Youthworks program, said that she has seen firsthand the benefits of the program in this cohort of students.
